Products

SEMCO manufactures a wide range of filing products. Here are some of the common materials used and types of products we produce.

Folder Stock

File Folders are manufactured in a variety of sizes and paper stocks:

  • Manila stock
  • Colored stock
  • Pressboard stock
  • Kraft Stock (natural - unbleached sulfate paper)
  • Wallet stock

Manila Stock

Manila is the standard choice for a majority of folder applications. Manila stock is smooth and resists tearing, folding or bursting. It is manufactured in several different point stocks: 9.5, 11, 13, 14, 15, 18 and 20 point stock. The most common are 11, 14 and 15.

Colored Stock

Colored stock is either pulp dyed or tinted and is available in 11, 15 and 20 point. To make pulp dyed stock, the mill adds a dye directly to the vat as the paper is being manufactured. This provides consistent color throughout the material and is superior to tinted stock.

Pressboard

Pressboard is one of the most durable materials in the industry for making filing products and is manufactured in three primary grades.

  • Type I Genuine Pressboard is a high density premium stock that is actually thinner but more durable than the other two Pressboard grades. It has exceptional durability, rigidity, and snap, and it also takes less shelf space. Manufactured from recycled pulpboard pressed together to produce 20 pt. stock. It is more costly than manila or the other grades of Pressboard but offers superior quality and durability. It is available in 14 colors in either a high gloss or marbleized appearance.
  • Type II Guidex Pressboard is a medium density Pressboard of 25 point stock. It is the industry standard for commercial or classification folders and is made from low grade woods. Available in gray or red.
  • Type III Valtex Pressboard is a low density Pressboard. It is a low grade 25 point stock. It is an economical alternative to the other Pressboards. Available in gray, green, moss green, blue, royal blue, deep red, or yellow.

Folder Configurations

Folders are either end tab configuration used primarily in open bookcase-style shelves, ot top tab configuration used primarily in vertical pull drawer shelving. Top tab folders are manufactured in either letter size or legal size.

Tabs

Tabs are extensions of the folder material itself and are die cut to extend beyond the folder body. Single-ply folders are the same thinness of the folder itself while two-ply tabs are twice the thickness of the folder.

Fasteners

Fasteners help keep documents in the folder and allow information to be attached in an organized manner. Fasteners are either factory installed or self-installed. Factory installed are either heat bonded or crimped to the folder while self-installed fasteners either come with adhesive backing or are applied through the back of the folder. Fasteners can be located in eight different locations on the folder.

Pockets

Folder pockets eliminate the need to punch holes in documents and help to guarantee documents remain in the folder. Pocket configurations include pocket folders, factory installed pockets in manila folders, or self adhesive transparent poly or vinyl pockets.

Expansion Folders

Expansion options are cost effective methods to extend the capacity of folders. The most common expansion option is "W" folder which is scored from the folder material to allow for 2 inches of expansion. Partition and multi-partition folders can be made from any paper stock and conveniently product a way to segment information within a folder. Pressboard folders used for heavy-duty applications are expanded using a Tyvek(r) gusset or spine for extra durability.

5-Piece Pockets and Wallets

Expanding pockets and wallets are made of quality recycled red, gray, or manila stock and laminated for a sturdy finish. Each expanding pocket or wallet is a 5-piece construction. Gussets are made of tearproof Tyvek(r). Wallets have include covers and elastic fastener.
